They’re Not Just Sunglasses: Redefine How You See the World with Method Seven

April 14, 2025

For most people when the hear the word sunglasses, they think fashion. The focus is on how the frames look, what statement they make, or are they trending. But at Method Seven, we’re here to flip that perspective. Our mission isn’t just about how you look to the world, it's about how the world looks for you.

“Sunglasses are really about fashion. They're kind of like about how you look. They're not how you look at the world.”

This distinction is at the core of everything we do. Method Seven started over a decade ago in a completely different space: the high pressure world of indoor agriculture. We pioneered the development of lenses that balance intense artificial light in grow rooms, while still protecting your eyes. It was no small feat, but it taught us how to master light filtering at a level few others attempt. From that experience, our flagship notch filtering technology was born.

“We got our start in the grow business 11 years ago… such a crazy challenge to try and balance light in indoor grow rooms. But what's happened since then is we've gotten really good at filtering light.”

We took that hard earned expertise and turned our eyes toward the broader eyewear market. What we found was disappointing. Most sunglasses just dim your surroundings. They make everything darker, flatter, duller. And that’s not what your brain really wants.

“We learned that the brain wants a lot of light. It just needs good light.”

Method Seven’s lenses use a unique approach called notch filtering, a selective, precision method of managing light. Think of it like a noise canceling headset, but for your eyes. Just as those headsets eliminate distracting background noise and leave only crisp, clear sound, our lenses remove distracting and damaging light while letting the beneficial light through.

“We're filtering out the light that you don't want and letting in the good light. And it's just really remarkable. You have to try them.”

This approach changes the way you think about sunglasses. Our lenses aren’t about going dark, they’re about going clear, vivid, and accurate. That’s why many of our shades let you see the wearer’s eyes. It’s not a mistake, it’s the intentional result of good optical engineering.

“If you'll notice most of our lenses, they're not super dark… it turns out it isn't about making it dark. It's just about making it good.”

Most sunglasses force your eyes to work harder, straining through cheap tints and over darkened filters that reduce clarity. Method Seven lenses do the opposite. They support your vision. They enhance it. And they do it with technology you can feel from the moment you put them on.

“We're about more light, just good filtering. And it's not easy to do and it's not cheap. But if you want a good experience, that's what we're…”

The best way to understand what makes Method Seven so different is to see it for yourself. Hear the full story in the video, a behind-the-scenes look at what drives us, the science behind our lenses, and why we believe you shouldn’t call them sunglasses at all.
