Full Spectrum Grow Glasses - seeing your harvest safely and accurately under grow lights.

Full Spectrum Grow Glasses - seeing your harvest safely and accurately under grow lights.

November 17, 2025

The FX2 LED lens, from Method Seven - is the only eyewear solution for working with full spectrum LED lights. This is essential for worker safety and to achieve the best harvest.

The newest generation of LED Broadband+ grow lights now combining high-intensity white LEDs with strong peaks in UVA, deep blue, deep red (≈670 nm), and far red (≈725 nm), and this is transforming modern cultivation with faster growth, stronger plants, and higher-quality yields.

But these advanced light systems also create serious challenges: UVA exposure threatens long-term eye health, far red energy increases eye fatigue, and the heavy red skew makes it nearly impossible to see true plant color. Under these distortions, growers miss early signs of stress, nutrient problems, pests, or disease. These issues that can cost entire harvests. Many growers rely on dark sunglasses just to cope with discomfort, but because they flatten the full spectrum, they actually make visibility and accuracy worse.

Method Seven is the only company that designs purpose-built optical solutions specifically for the demands of modern horticultural lighting. Our team continuously studies spectral output across evolving LED technologies, ensuring that growers stay protected, see clearly, and work comfortably as the industry advances.

The LED FX2 BB+ lens was engineered from the ground up for the new Broadband+ LED systems. It eliminates UVA, softens the intense blue spike around 450 nm, and cuts about 60% of the deep red peak at 670 nm, restoring a near-perfect natural daylight balance of red, green, and blue. This correction brings color perception back to reality, enabling growers to see their plants exactly as they are, diagnose issues instantly, and document growth with true-to-life photography.

By reducing overstimulation from deep red and minimizing far red fatigue, the FX2 BB+ lens protects eye health, preserves peripheral vision, and keeps growers sharp during long hours in the room. With accurate color, safe light, and proper visual comfort, mistakes go down, consistency improves, and growers make better decisions.

Wearing Method Seven isn’t just smart for safety, it genuinely makes you a better grower.

Background

New LED Grow Systems are being introduced that support faster plant growth and higher quantity and quality yields.  The light spectrum for these new Broadband + LED Light Systems extend beyond the boundaries of the visible light spectrum.  UVA light is added to boost the production of terpenes and essential oils. These lights also add an energy peak in Deep Red at around 670 nm, and in Far Red around 725 nm, to increase plant biomass and flower size.  As well these lights add an energy peak in the deep blue region to improve their grow.

Problems Working under LED Broad Band + lighting conditions

UVA light is harmful to the health of your eyes.  Over time UVA light can lead to the development of cataracts and other eye disorders.

The Deep Red energy peak at 670 nm casts a red hue over everything viewed under this light. You cannot see, or photograph the natural colors of your plants under these lights.  The Far Red energy at 725 nm will raise the temperature inside your eyes and cause you to feel tired. As well, the overweight of red diminishes your peripheral vision, which depends on a heavier weighting of blue light to stimulate the rods in your eye.

Growers use dark sunglasses while working under the intense red energy peak to minimize the pain they feel from the cones in their eyes becoming overstimulated. The problem is dark sunglasses reduce light equally across the entire visible light spectrum and debilitate our abilities to recognize colors and to focus properly.  Sunglasses in essence blind our vision.

The LED FX2 from Method Seven

The LEDFX2 lens was designed by Method Seven to serve growers who work and photograph their plants under these newer Broad Band + LED Light Systems.  Issues addressed by the LED FX2 lens design:

UVA Light

As with all Method Seven lenses, UVA light is filtered out so you need not worry about damaging your eyes while working under these Broad Band + LED lights.

Quality and Comfort of Vision

The cones in our eyes enable us to perceive color.  We have three kinds of cones, each sensing a different primary color of red, green, or blue.  Noon time sunlight provides an equal weighting of these primary colors.  Under LED Broad Band + lighting our eyes are exposed to an overweight of red light – which makes our plants look and photograph brownish, even if they are healthy green.

The LED FX2 lens was designed to attenuates 60% of the red energy peak at 670 nm, and attenuate 25% of the blue energy peak.  This enables you to see natural colors while working under the LED Broad Band + lighting systems.  By minimizing these energy peaks, and with a modest attenuation of overall energy across the rest of the visible spectrum, we can enhance, rather than detract from vision under these LED lights.

We measured the percentages of each of these primary colors sensed under natural sunlight, under LED Broad + Light, and under LED Broad Band + Light viewed through the Method Seven LED FX2 lens.  Results from measurements are shown below:

By diminishing the overweight of red light the ratio of light in the primary colors is balanced and you can see natural colors when working under Broad Band + LED Lighting.

Blue Light

Now that the industry is finally beginning to manufacture these next generation LED FX lights, customers are beginning to express concern with the high energy peak around 450 nm.  There is concern that long term exposure to this higher energy light can in the long run cause damage to workers eyes.  There is concern for the development of cataracts over time. As well, by improving the ratio of blue light to red and green light, we are able to reduce the loss of peripheral vision.

In Summary

The LED FX2 lens is approved for production by Method Seven Labs.  The design accomplishes the following desired goals:

  • Lens was designed specifically for the next generation LED broadband + lights
  • Lens eliminates harmful UVA rays
  • Lens diminishes energy in the Far Red (NIR) range, providing a less tiring work experience
  • Lens balances the primary colors so you can see and photograph objects as seen under natural sunlight
  • Lens provides all the light you need to see natural colors, focus well, and enjoy your peripheral vision, while at the same time diminishing the energy peaks in the deep red region that causes us to squint.  In essence we can see properly and comfortably when wearing glasses populated with the LED FX2 BB+ lens.

The FX 2 lens is featured in the Citadel FX2, The Cultivator FX2, the Evolution FX2, the Duches FX2 and a few special edition frames. Method Seven frames meet or exceed ANSI and CSA certifications and all our lenses are third party tested and certified. Most of the Method Seven Lenses for Grow Lights are manufactured in partnership with Zeiss Sun Vision. Method Seven also uses advanced coatings for scratch resistance, anti reflection, and include coatings with hydrophobic properties (called Resin Repel) that help keep the lenses clean from finger prints and grease, and make them very easy to clean.
