Launch of Women’s Grow Glasses

June 12, 2020

Method Seven is tipping its shades toward females in the cannabis industry—and not just the coveted female plants. The grow glasses manufacturer recently launched the Lennox, a new women-specific frame with lens options for outdoor and indoor grow scenes. “Women have been saying for years that they wanted something less bulky and more feminine,” says Method Seven Customer Service Manager Lauren Donlon. “We try to listen to our customers and give them what they ask for. The Lennox is a reflection of that.” According to Donlon, the Lennox Perfect Color HPS+ Grow Glasses are the first-ever indoor grow glasses developed specifically for women. To celebrate this milestone, Method Seven is teaming up with Royal Gold, the first nationally distributed Coco Fiber-based soil company, to give away a pair of Lennox SUNp Women’s Sunglasses and 25 bags of Mendo Mix planting soil to one lucky winner. “As a woman in the cannabis business, I am thrilled to be a part of and support this campaign,” says Manders Anderson of Royal Gold. “I love what Method Seven is doing for the ladies of the industry!”

Wendy Bentley, Business Manager of Canna Organix, admits that “women are underrepresented in the cannabis business, but that’s just been the nature of the industry.” Of the 40 employees at her licensed grow facility in Sequim, WA, only 10% are female. However, this proportion is a reflection of the applicant pool, which is 90% male. “Women are more represented now than they were 15 years ago, and even more so in the last five years,” says Bentley. “Today, there are more women in leadership roles.” According to a 2019 report by MJBizDaily, nearly 37% of senior-level jobs at cannabis companies are held by women, which is about 15% higher than the national average. As a co-owner of Canna Organix, Bentley exemplifies this statistic. “Even though there are more men in the industry, I’ve generally always felt supported and that we are working as a team,” she insists. “Despite challenges, gender hasn’t really been a major factor.”

Bentley currently holds a senior-level managerial role; however, she has always taken a hands-on approach to growing. From about 2008-2014, she worked at an outdoor medical grow in Mendocino County where she watered, fertilized, pruned, tied, harvested, dried, and trimmed plants. In 2013, she co-founded Canna Organix, a 30,000 sq. ft. facility comprised of greenhouses with grow lights, and outdoor gardens with light dep. “We’ve been supporters of Method Seven glasses since the beginning,” she insists. “They do seem to be the best glasses on the market.” Her greenhouses utilize a combination of metal halide (MH) and high pressure sodium (HPS) lights. “Without the glasses, you can feel the HPS lights in your eyeballs, to the point where it can be quite damaging,” she notes. “Glasses are critical in even being able to work inside the greenhouses when the lights are on, and necessary for identifying deficiencies or pests.” Given the large scale of her operation, and the fact that it is all organic, preventative care and early identification are essential. “Our goal is to have every single bud that we produce be the ideal bud,” admits Bentley.

Formulated with German mineral glass and infused with rare earth elements, Method Seven’s Lennox Perfect Color HPS+ Grow Glasses filter the grow room light spectrum and restore natural color, making it easier to spot issues like pests and nutrient deficiency. They also block ultraviolet light and infrared heat, keeping eyes cool and moist under bright grow room lights. The silver "plus" coating attenuates the effects of large scale grows above 10,000 watts and double-ended HPS lighting fixtures. Hand-tooled in Italy and designed to fit smaller faces, the new frame is named after Mary Lennox, the transformational character in The Secret Garden.

Fitted with a shatterproof polymer lens, Lennox SUNp Women’s Sunglasses offer true color and full UV protection under the biggest grow light of all: the sun. Advanced polarizing technology minimizes distortion while viewing cell phones or other screens, and an anti-reflective coating called "the purps” cuts glare.
