Release of Resistance 2 with Polarization

April 09, 2020

The successor to the High Times Magazine Product of the Year, the Resistance 2 incorporates structural advancements and new technology, including a screen-friendly polarized lens option developed by Method Seven. “It’s the evolution of our classic product, the Resistance,” says CEO James Cox. According to Cox, the company’s flagship product, the Resistance, featured the first lens with color correcting technology specific to the high-pressure sodium (HPS) grow room light spectrum. Method Seven’s new SUNp lenses, which will be available in the Resistance 2 frame later this month, aim to make an equally significant impact on the outdoor grow market—and raise the bar for polarized sunglasses in general. “Our new technology provides glare-blocking comfort without compromising the visual experience and has minimal interference with other polarized products, like cell phones and navigational devices,” Cox notes. To celebrate the release of the new product, Method Seven is hosting a giveaway with GrowGeneration, one of the largest hydroponic equipment suppliers in the US.

The Resistance 2 combines the full protection of a base-8 wrap with the modern styling of a base-6 flat frame, shielding from light at all angles. Molded in Italy using a TR-90 thermoplastic, the new frame features non-slip rubberized accents for added grip, flex hinges for near-custom fit, and big, bold temple pieces for extra coverage. The Resistance 2 is currently available in two different lens options: HPS+ and HPS, with the new SUNp lens slated for release on April 21. The HPS+ and HPS lenses are both crafted from German mineral glass infused with rare earth elements, which filter the grow room light spectrum to restore natural color while also defending against ultraviolet light and infrared heat. “We recommend the HPS+ option for working under double ended bulbs and in super large bright rooms,” advises Cox. “It has an extra coating that’s real silver, and blocks a bit more light while maintaining the perfect color ratios that only a Method Seven mineral glass lenses can deliver.”

Crafted from a lightweight polymer, the SUNp lens is optimized for the outdoor light spectrum, and designed to attenuate light uniformly without altering RGB or photopic:scotopic ratios. “Traditional outdoor sunglasses typically shift color to the browns or reds, which makes them less effective for outdoor horticultural decision making,” explains Cox. In addition, conventional polarizing technology leads to interference when viewing another polarized surface, such as a cellphone screen. “The concept is like looking through a window with Venetian blinds,” Cox says. “I’m not a big fan of this technology, even though it’s been marketed like crazy. Consumers typically pay extra to have their brains and eyes work harder than necessary.” The SUNp lens features advanced polarizing technology to minimize interference with screens and preserve natural color in bright outdoor environments. Method Seven developed the proprietary lens in conjunction with engineers, physicists, and ophthalmologists at Carl Zeiss Vision. According to Cox, the purple anti-reflective coating on the back of the lens “cuts glare while still maintaining clarity and contrast.” In a nod to the grow market, Method Seven has christened the new anti-reflective coating “the purps.”
