Introducing FLT Rx: An Entirely New Prescription Lens Engineered for Aviation

October 23, 2026

Method Seven has partnered with ZEISS to introduce FLT Rx, an entirely new prescription sunglass lens developed specifically for pilots. Combining Method Seven's aviation focused lens technology with ZEISS optical expertise, FLT Rx is engineered to deliver exceptional clarity, contrast, and glare reduction while maintaining visibility of electronic flight instruments.

Available in single vision, bifocal, and progressive prescriptions, FLT Rx brings purpose built aviation performance to pilots who require corrective lenses. View the collection here.

An Entirely New Lens, Not Just an Update

The new FLT Rx has replaced our previous FLT24 Rx lens, but this isn't simply a new coating or a revised version of the original. It's an entirely new prescription lens developed through a collaboration between Method Seven and ZEISS.

The new lens combines Method Seven's proprietary notch filtering technology with a neutral gray viewing tint, a Sapphire blue flash mirror, and advanced ZEISS lens coatings. Together, these technologies address the challenges of flying in bright conditions, from glare and changing light to the need to read electronic displays and instruments accurately.

With 25% visible light transmission (VLT), FLT Rx allows approximately one quarter of visible light to pass through the lens. This provides glare reduction for bright daytime flying while preserving the visibility pilots need to monitor instruments, scan the horizon, and identify details outside the aircraft.

Designed for the Way Pilots See

Not all sunglass lenses filter light in the same way. Conventional sunglasses generally reduce the amount of light reaching the eyes, while specialized lens technologies can selectively filter particular wavelengths.

Method Seven's notch filtering technology is designed to reduce selected portions of the visible spectrum that contribute to glare while preserving useful visual information. The goal is to improve contrast and visual comfort without unnecessarily darkening the view.

FLT Rx is also non-polarized, an important consideration in aviation. Polarized sunglasses can interfere with the visibility of certain electronic displays and produce unwanted visual effects when looking through aircraft windscreens. FLT Rx reduces glare without relying on polarization, helping pilots maintain a consistent view of their instruments and surroundings.

ZEISS DuraVision Sapphire and CleanGuard Technology

The collaboration with ZEISS introduces advanced optical coatings designed to improve lens performance, durability, and everyday maintenance.

FLT Rx features include:

  • ✈ ZEISS DuraVision Sapphire: An advanced anti-reflective coating designed to minimize distracting reflections and improve optical clarity.

  • ✈ CleanGuard technology: Helps resist oils and smudges, making fingerprints and other contaminants easier to remove.

  • ✈ Easy clean lens surfaces: Designed for convenient cleaning and maintenance, helping pilots keep their prescription sunglasses clean throughout regular use.

  • ✈ Sapphire blue flash mirror: A distinctive exterior mirror finish paired with a neutral gray viewing tint.

  • ✈ 25% visible light transmission: Designed for bright daytime flying, balancing glare reduction with useful visibility.

  • ✈ Non-polarized lens technology: Helps maintain visibility of electronic flight displays and reduces polarization related windscreen interference.

  • ✈ Lightweight, shatter resistant polymer: Provides a durable alternative to traditional glass prescription sunglass lenses.

Improved Durability and Long Term Lens Performance

For pilots familiar with our previous FLT24 Rx lenses, one of the most significant differences is durability. The new FLT Rx lenses are manufactured by ZEISS using advanced coating technology designed to provide greater resistance to scratches, delamination, hazing, chipping, peeling, and fading with proper care.

These improvements are especially important for customers who experienced coating deterioration with earlier prescription lenses. FLT Rx uses an entirely different lens and coating system, developed with an emphasis on long term optical clarity, consistent coating quality, and everyday durability.

Combined with ZEISS CleanGuard technology, which makes fingerprints, oils, and smudges easier to remove, the new FLT Rx offers a more durable, easier-to-maintain prescription sunglass option for pilots.

FLT Rx lenses are also supported by ZEISS warranty and remake policies, providing additional reassurance and protection. Specific coverage depends on the type of issue and applicable warranty terms.

Single Vision, Bifocal, and Progressive Options

FLT Rx is available in three prescription configurations, allowing pilots to choose the type of vision correction that best suits their needs.

  • ✈ Single Vision: Corrects vision at one distance, typically for distance or reading.

  • ✈ Bifocal: Combines separate distance and near vision prescription zones in one lens.

  • ✈ Progressive: Provides a gradual transition between distance, intermediate, and near vision without a visible dividing line.

For pilots who need to alternate between looking outside the aircraft, checking instruments, and reading charts or other materials, choosing the appropriate prescription configuration is particularly important.
