Lens Technology

A different approach to optics

Most sunglasses are too dark, overly polarized, and primarily about fashion. They may make you squint less but don't help you see better.

We fixed that with our notch filtering technology.

We filter light with such precision that we can eliminate a specific wavelength (light color/energy) you don't need and enhance the wavelengths you do. It's noise-canceling for your eyes. You see better, are more relaxed, and can always keep your glasses on - in the car, in the cafe, and scrolling your phone.

TRAIL Lens Technology plus minus

Designed for the Runner's Cockpit, the 8-10 feet in front of you as you hike, bike, or run on trails. The lens is super bright, provides detailed contrast, and filters so well that you can use it from dawn to dusk, in the trees, or on snowy peaks. It's remarkable new technology, including a 40% polarizing that blocks glare but doesn't crush contrast. Finally, a lens you can bomb down technical descents and not trip.

26% Visible Light Transmission plus minus

VLT measures the average light passing through a lens. The lower the number, the less light gets through (darker). Average lenses are 18% VLT, so our 26% VLT is on the lighter side. But remember, VLT is an average. We use notch flitering, so our lenses can have a higher VLT than most (lighter), and yet block more harsh light energy. The result? You get more good light to your eyes comfortably and safely. You make better, faster decisions and have less fatigue.

Frame Technology

M7 UltraTrail frames are designed in California and manufactured in Italy and Japan. They are rigorously tested by the M7 Beta Team for a bounce-free fit, resistance to extreme sweat, fog, rain, and comfort. They have been proven at the Moab 240, the Hardrock 100, and thousands of miles in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. At around 20 grams, our frames are among the lightest on the planet.

The Silverton plus minus

Insanely light and stays put - a workhorse designed in the Mountains of Colorado with Avery Collins, a professional ultra runner. Set them and forget them - snowy peaks or dark valleys—one lens to rule them all.

TR90 Frame Technology plus minus

Injected thermoplastic technology - the lightest, strongest way to make a sports or performance frame. If it's not titanium, it better be TR90.

Method Seven Trail

We make specialized lenses for commercial pilots who fly west directly into the sun on repeated flights. Seriously, it's crazy, but we’ve mastered tuning lenses for specific uses.

Most of our crew are runners and mountain bikers, with one employee even completing the Moab 240—serious stuff. But the glasses they had were garbage—$25 cheapies that made us cringe. So, we thought, what if we designed a lens JUST for the trails? No one-size-fits-all trendy nonsense, but something that makes the landscape POP with depth, work in low light and handles peak sun energy. That’s the conversation we had with our engineering team in Japan. They took on the challenge and developed the Trail 26 lens.

Along the way, we realized we needed a specific type of polarization. Every polarized lens we tried was too much, killing contrast and not helping. Great for fishing, not great for running. Then we nailed it. The Trail 26 lens was born, perfect for the demands of trail running. We achieved the lowest haze rating we've tested from any lens and included all the fancy hydrophobic, anti-glare, and anti-scratch coatings. Our trail lens and frame are just as niche as the ultra runners themselves. And let's be honest—these are not normal people. We love 'em, but 240 miles in one shot in Moab, Utah...?

Avery Collins

"I've had a blast working with M7. And I've now tested their lenses for maybe over 1,000 miles of running. Many of those miles at high altitude, and I'm continuously amazed at how comfortable they are and how well they work, even in bright, snowy reflection conditions - it just doesn't make sense for a lens so light would work - but somehow the filtering delivers. I never run without them".

From Silverton, Colorado, Avery Collins has made a significant mark in ultrarunning with his extraordinary endurance and competitive spirit. He also helped us design and develop the award-winning Trail 26 lens and the frame of his hometown's namesake, Silverton.

Avery has tackled the infamous Hardrock 100, a grueling 100-mile race in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, known for its rugged terrain and high altitude. Western States 100: Competing in one of the oldest and most prestigious 100-mile races, Collins has demonstrated his prowess on this demanding trail that spans from Squaw Valley to Auburn, California. UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc): Avery has taken on the UTMB, a renowned ultramarathon that loops around the Mont-Blanc massif, covering approximately 171 kilometers with significant elevation gain. Triple Crown of 200s: He has also completed the Triple Crown of 200s, which includes three 200-mile races: Bigfoot 200, Tahoe 200, and Moab 240, showcasing his ability to endure extreme distances over consecutive events.
