Lens Technology

Not all sunlight needs to be treated the same. Method Seven uses spectral filtering and polarization to manage distracting light while preserving useful visual information. Life sunglasses are designed to reduce glare and maintain natural-looking color and contrast in everyday outdoor conditions. It's a more deliberate approach to optics than simply making lenses darker.

TRAIL Lens Technology plus minus

Designed for the runner's cockpit, the 8 to 10 feet of trail directly ahead where every detail matters. Trail 26 lenses transmit 26% of visible light, balancing brightness and contrast as you move from dawn to dusk, beneath shaded forest canopies, across sunlit trails, and over exposed mountain peaks. Precision notch filtering and partial polarization help reduce glare while preserving the terrain details you need to navigate rocks, roots, and changing surfaces. Whether you're hiking, biking, or bombing down technical descents, Trail 26 lenses help you read the trail ahead with clarity and confidence.

26% Visible Light Transmission plus minus

VLT measures the average light passing through a lens. The lower the number, the less light gets through (darker). Average lenses are 18% VLT, so our 26% VLT is on the lighter side. But remember, VLT is an average. We use notch flitering, so our lenses can have a higher VLT than most (lighter), and yet block more harsh light energy. The result? You get more good light to your eyes comfortably and safely. You make better, faster decisions and have less fatigue.

Frame Technology

Trail frames are selected for secure fit, coverage, and comfort during movement, whether you're climbing, descending, running, or riding. Frame materials and designs vary by model: flexible TR90 on the Silverton and Resistance 2; titanium on the Closer and Patriot. Each model has its own weight and temple design, so there's no one-size-fits-all frame specification.

The Silverton plus minus

Inspired by Silverton, Colorado, and developed with input from ultrarunner Avery Collins, the Silverton is a flexible TR90 trail frame built to stay put. Slip-resistant nose pads and temple tips help secure the fit through climbs and descents. At 23.2 g, it brings a lightweight feel to technical trail running and mountain biking.

TR90 Frame Technology plus minus

TR90 is an advanced thermoplastic material engineered for lightweight strength, flexibility, and durability. Its resilient construction allows frames to flex under pressure while retaining their shape, providing a comfortable and secure fit. Resistant to corrosion and everyday wear, TR90 is particularly well suited for aviation, active environments, and extended use.

Method Seven Trail

"We started by engineering specialized lenses for pilots and demanding indoor lighting. Then our runners and mountain bikers looked at the sunglasses they were wearing on the trail and asked a pretty reasonable question: why are we settling for this stuff?

Technical trails need more than a dark lens. Roots, rocks, loose dirt, stream crossings, and the next ten feet of terrain all matter. We worked with our optical engineering team to develop Trail 26, combining targeted notch filtering with partial polarization to manage glare without sacrificing the contrast runners use to read the ground.

We tested the idea in the kind of places that don't forgive bad equipment, including Colorado mountain trails and ultra-distance events. The result is specialized eyewear for trail running, ultrarunning, hiking, and mountain biking. Not a one-size-fits-all fashion statement. A tool for people who'd rather be out there."

Avery Collins

"I've had a blast working with M7. And I've now tested their lenses for maybe over 1,000 miles of running. Many of those miles at high altitude, and I'm continuously amazed at how comfortable they are and how well they work, even in bright, snowy reflection conditions - it just doesn't make sense for a lens so light would work - but somehow the filtering delivers. I never run without them".

From Silverton, Colorado, Avery Collins has made a significant mark in ultrarunning with his extraordinary endurance and competitive spirit. He also helped us design and develop the award-winning Trail 26 lens and the frame of his hometown's namesake, Silverton.

Avery has tackled the infamous Hardrock 100, a grueling 100-mile race in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, known for its rugged terrain and high altitude. Western States 100: Competing in one of the oldest and most prestigious 100-mile races, Collins has demonstrated his prowess on this demanding trail that spans from Squaw Valley to Auburn, California. UTMB (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc): Avery has taken on the UTMB, a renowned ultramarathon that loops around the Mont-Blanc massif, covering approximately 171 kilometers with significant elevation gain. Triple Crown of 200s: He has also completed the Triple Crown of 200s, which includes three 200-mile races: Bigfoot 200, Tahoe 200, and Moab 240, showcasing his ability to endure extreme distances over consecutive events.

Effective and adorable!

"My orange Silvertons are perfect in cold and windy conditions. There's enough lens to protect and insulate my eyes in Maine winter, but they still are the right size for my face. If you're worried that they won't fit a woman well, don't! These are fantastic."

Best glasses in my arsenal

"Love what they did with the lenses. I use them for hiking, driving, every day wear. I own too many sunglasses from all the major brands after the trail lenses have been released I stopped wearing all the other ones. Super lightweight and comfortable. If it’s super sunny out I pull out a pair of the Evolution Suns."

These shades are FIRE!

"These have quickly become the best shades I have ever owned! They're light weight and grab your face nicely so they always feel secure. The best thing is that I can wear them in bright AND shady conditions so I'm not constantly taking them on and off when I run indoors for a moment. I don't know what they're doing with the coatings but they enhance real life, colors are more vivid and contrasty, I'm constantly making my friends look at things through them."
